Gov. Sani: Our Approach to Ending Poverty and Insecurity in Nigeria is Wrong

At the 6th Annual Interfaith Peace Conference in partnership with the Kaduna State government, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State stated that poverty and insecurity are the greatest challenges facing Nigeria.

He emphasized that political leaders’ approach to ending these issues has been wrong, as efforts have been more reactive than proactive.

Governor Sani stressed the importance of addressing poverty, as it is a major source of concern for political leaders and a key factor in restoring people’s confidence in democracy.

He called for all stakeholders to join hands in finding solutions to these problems, with research and evidence-based approaches as the starting point.

The governor highlighted the need for strategic thinking when addressing security issues, rather than just tactical thinking.

He suggested that security leaders and forces should study the environment, including the topography, people, culture, politics, and changing dynamics, to develop appropriate strategies for tackling insecurity in Nigeria.

Both the Secretary-General of the Jama’atu Nasir Islam (JNI), Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh, expressed concerns over the rising poverty and insecurity in the country.

They emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing these issues.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with the challenges of poverty and insecurity, it is vital for political leaders, security forces, and all stakeholders to work together in finding effective and sustainable solutions.

By adopting a proactive and research-based approach, Nigeria can address the root causes of poverty and insecurity, ultimately creating a more prosperous and secure nation for all its citizens.
