Gbajabiamila- Financially unstable youths can’t advance course of democracy

The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged the private sector and NGOs to join hands with President Bola Tinubu’s government in boosting the financial capacity of Nigerian youths.

He made this call at the launch of a Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) fellowship scheme hosted by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Abuja on Monday.

He said, “Democracy cannot thrive if our young people are financially handicapped. They need to have their basic needs met so that they can actively engage in the democratic process.

“That is why President Tinubu is committed to reviving the national economy and making it more appealing to both foreign and local investors. This will enable us to build the necessary public infrastructure, create new industries, develop our communities, and generate enough decent jobs.

“By doing this, we will be able to cater to the needs of our large and growing youth population,” he said.

The NILDS Director General, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, said the LMI has successfully trained a group of talented young Nigerians and equipped them with the skills, knowledge, and connections they need to excel in the legislative field.

He appealed to the National Assembly leadership to allocate adequate funds for this initiative to ensure its continuity and efficiency.

He said, “This is an investment in the future of our democracy. The LMI’s graduates will enrich the legislative process with their fresh insights, innovative ideas, and steadfast dedication.”
