Former President Jonathan Highlights Key Factors Hindering Quality Leadership in Africa

Celebrating the 87th birthday of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former President Goodluck Jonathan identified key factors that are hindering quality leadership in Africa.

The event, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, brought together notable figures to discuss the importance of quality leadership and inclusive democracy in fostering development in a strife-ridden world.

Jonathan pointed out that access to justice, the quality of elections, and tribalism are some of the major obstacles to quality leadership on the continent.

He emphasized the need to address the winner-takes-it-all mentality in politics and encouraged the inclusion of opposition members in governance, as it promotes quality and inclusiveness.

The event also featured remarks from former Slovenian President and Chairman of Club De Madrid, Danilo Turk.

He shared that the club is actively working on establishing a body to combat corruption worldwide.

Turk stressed the importance of giving people a choice in democratic processes and ensuring that democracy is not limited to the elite in any country.

During the event, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun praised former President Obasanjo for being a leading voice in the quest for political emancipation and good governance in Africa.

He highlighted Obasanjo’s unique connection to his roots and his status as a respected democratic leader globally.

The governor commended the former president for his far-sightedness and his ability to nurture leaders.

He also acknowledged Obasanjo’s unwavering dedication to promoting African culture and tradition.

As the discussion concluded, it was clear that the event served as a platform for thought-provoking dialogue on the challenges facing Africa and the importance of fostering quality leadership and inclusive democracy for the continent’s development.
