Dr Zakka Yakubu wants to be Nasarawa's next governor. The ex-Accountant-General made his ambition known on Sunday in Akwanga.

He's running for the All Progressives Congress ticket in 2027. Yakubu addressed a large crowd at a campaign rally in the local government area.

His campaign centres on what he calls a "people's budget." According to him, communities should decide what projects get funded, not government officials alone.

"Councillors will visit their wards and ask residents what they need," Yakubu explained to reporters. "Those priorities will shape the budget from the ground up."

He noted that state legislators should do the same in their constituencies. "Members must engage with their people to understand what matters most to them," he said.

Yakubu criticized mismatches between government spending and community needs. "If people need hospitals but we're building roads instead, that's wrong," he noted.

Some communities desperately need schools, he added. Yet governments sometimes pursue completely different projects.

Yakubu's approach rejects what he calls "white elephant projects." His administration would focus on initiatives that genuinely improve citizens' lives.

"When you understand people's problems, you solve them the way they want," he told supporters. "This kind of budget speeds up development because it targets real needs."

He thanked his backers for their faith in him. Yakubu promised to make community-driven projects his top priority if elected.
