In a recent turn of events, former Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu's plea for Nigerians to continue making sacrifices for the country.
This comes after Tinubu, while addressing the media at Dodan Barracks in Lagos following the Eid-el-Kabir prayers, emphasized the need for citizens to sacrifice in order to fulfill the dreams of the nation's founding fathers.
Dalung, however, questioned the President's sincerity in his statement, suggesting that Tinubu may be out of touch with the hardships faced by the average Nigerian.
He called on Tinubu and his cabinet members to lead by example in the call for sacrifice, so that the public could take the President's words more seriously.
"Does President Tinubu know that Nigerians are suffering? Certainly not," Dalung wrote on X. "His reckless economic policies, wasteful expenditures, plundering of resources, insensitivity to the plights of citizens, boastful and egoistic squandering of goodwill, and adoption of corruption and nepotism as state policies are the characteristics of this ignoble regime."
Dalung went on to suggest that if President Tinubu is truly sincere in his call for sacrifice, it may indicate that his government is under siege by a notorious cabal.
He also criticized the President's body language, stating that it betrayed a disconnect from the social reality and hardships faced by the Nigerian people.
"From my analysis of the speech, Nigeria is on autopilot, navigating turbulence," Dalung added. "Sacrifice should begin with @officialABAT and his jumbo-sized government, then Nigerians can take him seriously, but for now, it's mere rhetoric and propaganda."
As the debate over the President's call for sacrifice continues, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to Dalung's criticisms and whether the public will heed Tinubu's call for further sacrifices in the pursuit of national development.
