Nasir El-Rufai, the former Kaduna governor, faced two courts Wednesday in the state capital. He's accused of financial misconduct, abuse of office, and money laundering.

At Federal High Court II, Justice Hauwa'u Buhari presided over his arraignment. El-Rufai appeared alongside his ex-Special Adviser Jimi Lawal and five companies.

The court heard an amended 11-count charge against all defendants. El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to Count One of the indictment.

Lawal, his former aide, entered not guilty pleas on three counts. These were Counts Six, Seven, and Eight of the charge.

Singularity Network Security Limited, one of the corporate defendants, faced seven counts. The company was arraigned on Counts Two through Five, and Nine through Eleven.

Lawyers for both El-Rufai and Lawal told the judge they'd filed bail applications. They asked the court to grant their clients' release pending trial.

Justice Buhari heard arguments from defence and prosecution teams. She then postponed her bail ruling to July 1, 2026.

After leaving Federal High Court, El-Rufai headed to Kaduna State High Court. Another ICPC case awaited him there.

That separate case also centres on alleged abuse of office. Money laundering charges are also part of this proceeding.

The state high court adjourned briefly after hearing from lawyers. The case will resume on June 29, 2026, for more testimony.
