Former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Urges PDP Members to Recommit for Party’s Revitalization in Abia State

Amidst concerns over political instability and the departure of some of his former aides to other parties, former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State called for the re-commitment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to revitalize and strengthen the Party’s standing in the state.

The appeal was made during a caucus meeting held at the new party secretariat in Umuahia on Friday.

Ikpeazu emphasized the need for unity and collective responsibility in addressing the challenges faced by the PDP following the 2023 elections.

He highlighted the importance of loyalty and personal sacrifice, particularly from those who have previously benefitted from the party.

“We must all take individual responsibility for our performance in the 2023 elections even as our party is going through self-cleansing.

I will remain in PDP and never be found wanting in my duties to our party and its rebuilding process,” he stated.

The former governor acknowledged that some members might choose to leave the party, but he stressed the importance of those who remain to work towards repositioning the PDP.

“Those who want to leave will leave, no matter what you do. Loyalty is also about the realization that at some point in time, this party has been good to you.

It is now time for sacrifice, especially from those who previously benefitted from our party in one way or another as we must all join hands to reposition it,” he said.

Ikpeazu’s call for unity and recommitment comes at a crucial time for the PDP as it seeks to rebuild its image and regain the trust of the electorate.

The party’s performance in the 2023 elections has led to introspection and a reassessment of its strategies, with the former governor urging members to embrace the process of self-cleansing and work towards a stronger and more united PDP in Abia State.
