Nigerian Air Force jets have struck terrorist positions in the Lake Chad Basin, killing numerous insurgents and commanders. The operation targeted hideouts around Metele in Borno State's Northern Tumbuns area.
Fighters belonging to Operation Hadin Kai's Air Component carried out the early morning raids on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Intelligence gathering had pinpointed senior militant leaders and increased rebel activity in the region beforehand.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame announced the successful strikes during a Thursday briefing in Abuja. He noted that surveillance missions had confirmed terrorist positions and suspicious movement near concealed structures.
The militants had posed a persistent threat to troops in the zone. Records show they'd ambushed soldiers multiple times, with one recent attack leaving several dead and beheaded.
"Our aircraft engaged the targets with precision after identifying hostile elements on the ground," Ejodame told reporters. He added that post-strike assessments showed significant damage to the terror camps.
Scores of insurgents were neutralised in the bombardment. Damage surveys confirmed the destruction of the terrorist stronghold.
Air Chief Hasan Bala Abubakar praised the personnel who executed the mission. He pledged the Air Force would maintain its offensive against armed groups nationwide.
"We will keep using our air capabilities to find, strike and destroy militant targets everywhere," Abubakar was quoted as saying. He stressed that terrorists won't find refuge anywhere in Nigerian territory.
Ejodame reaffirmed that the Air Force remains committed to hunting down insurgents. The force intends to deny militants any opportunity to operate freely within borders.
Operations against Boko Haram and splinter factions continue across the northeast. Military operations have intensified pressure on terrorist networks in recent months.
The latest strikes represent ongoing efforts to degrade militant capabilities in the region. Combined intelligence work and air power remain central to the counter-insurgency strategy.
