FG Unveils Advanced Mechanisation Plan to Boost Food Production and Empower Farmers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared its commitment to advance agricultural mechanisation, with a holistic approach to empower farmers with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to boost agricultural enterprises and meet global market demands.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, announced this initiative at the 2024 Special Agricultural Equipment Expo in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of mechanised agriculture in realizing the sector’s untapped potential.

Represented by the director of agric business and marketing, Gagare Nadungu, the minister highlighted the government’s dedication to utilizing the transformative potential of agricultural mechanisation to strengthen food and nutrition security, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable growth and job creation across the nation.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” focusing on eco-friendly agribusiness practices that safeguard natural resources and ensure environmental sustainability for future generations.

The event, organized by Eurobase Consult Limited in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, aimed to leverage the power of agricultural mechanisation to achieve sustainable food security and agro produce export.

The managing-director of Eurobase Africa, Don Ekesiobi, emphasized the critical role of mechanisation in overcoming challenges posed by climate change, population growth, and resource limitations.

Ekesiobi called for increased collaboration between Eurobase Consulting Limited and the Nigerian government, advocating for tax exemptions, import duty waivers, and regulatory fee exemptions on agricultural equipment and inputs for a two-year period.

These measures are intended to stimulate local investment, prevent capital flight to neighboring countries, and position Nigeria as a leading investment destination.

The FG’s commitment to advanced mechanisation in agriculture marks a significant step towards achieving food security and empowering farmers.

By integrating technology-driven solutions and fostering collaboration between the government and private sector, Nigeria is poised to strengthen its agricultural sector, promote sustainable growth, and enhance its global competitiveness.
