Starting from 11 am on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, the Iyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele section of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will be shut down for emergency repairs. This is according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Engr. (Mrs.) O. I. Kesha, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Works.
The statement urges drivers to take note of the following alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion and delays:
Ojota – Ikorodu road- Funsho Williams Avenue – EKO bridge-Apogbon-CMS
Ojota- Ikorodu road- Jibowu – Yaba- Oyingbo-Iddo- Carter bridge- CMS
Gbagada- Anthony- Ikorodu road- Funsho Williams – Eko bridge- Apogbon – CMS.
The statement also appeals to drivers to cooperate with the traffic management officials who will be on ground to ensure smooth and safe movements during the repair period.
The statement expresses gratitude to the general public for their previous cooperation and understanding, and solicits for more of the same this time around.
The Third Mainland Bridge is the second-largest bridge in Africa, spanning almost 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) to connect Lagos Island, the city’s commercial hub, with the mainland where most residents live.
