The Federal Government has ordered the reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos to traffic, following the successful completion of the first phase of its rehabilitation.
The decision was announced by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, who praised the efforts of the previous administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in ensuring the project’s progress.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Federal Ministry of Works revealed that the reopening of the bridge was aimed at easing the stress experienced by motorists during the rehabilitation period.
Engr. Umahi called on Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that the successful completion of the first phase of the rehabilitation work is a testament to the government’s commitment to infrastructural development.
The Minister also disclosed that work has commenced on the second phase of the rehabilitation project, which involves addressing underwater damage to the bridge.
Additionally, plans are underway to begin similar rehabilitation work on the Carter Bridge in the coming weeks, with the contractor already mobilized for the project.
The Lagos State Controller of Works, Engr. O.I. Kesha, was instructed to reopen the bridge to traffic in the coming hours.
This development comes as a relief to Lagosians who have been facing transportation challenges since the commencement of the rehabilitation work.
As the second phase of the rehabilitation work continues, motorists are advised to adhere to speed limits and other traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
The successful completion of the Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation project is expected to improve transportation efficiency and connectivity within Lagos, further supporting the city’s economic growth and development.
