FG Promises Concrete Tech for Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway: A Transformative Project for Sustainable Development

The Nigerian government has announced its commitment to constructing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway using concrete technology.

This transformative project is set to drive investment opportunities and quicken returns on investment within economic corridors in Lagos State metropolis.

It is also expected to further expand emerging markets for South South and South East economic hubs.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, emphasized the government’s efforts in strengthening road infrastructure, boosting local content drive, and reviving the economy with the Renewed Hope agenda.

Economic analysts have revealed that the completion of the first phase of the project alone could increase the size of Lagos State’s economy by 50%, due to connections with the Lekki Deep Seaport and the Lekki economic corridor.

During an oversight visit to the project site in Lagos, the Senate House Committee on Works expressed confidence in the project’s delivery, with the superhighway being built by Hitech Construction Company.

The project has a huge return on investment to the country, with the president focused on improving road infrastructure that will last for 100 years and more.

Starting from Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island in Lagos, the superhighway will pass through Lekki Deep Seaport, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa-Ibom states.

The coastal road will have two spurs that will link up with Northern Nigeria, further integrating the north and south in terms of movement of people, goods, and services.

The project has garnered support from various stakeholders, including the Ilaje Development Summit Group (IDSG), which praised the visionary efforts of the Federal Government in embarking on this historic endeavor.

The group believes that the superhighway will catalyze growth and prosperity in Ondo State, particularly within the Ilaje region, by facilitating trade, tourism, and investment, and unlocking the latent potential of coastal resources.

The benefits of the superhighway extend beyond transportation logistics, with the potential to improve accessibility to essential services such as healthcare, education, and emergency response, thereby improving the quality of life for residents of Ilaje and neighboring communities.

The IDSG recognizes the project’s alignment with their objectives of promoting inclusive development, environmental sustainability, and social cohesion in the Ilaje region.

As the government moves forward with this transformative project, stakeholders at all levels, private sector partners, and civil society organizations are called upon to support its successful implementation.

Together, they can harness the transformative power of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to unlock the full potential of Ilaje and propel Nigeria towards a brighter, more prosperous future.
