The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated an analytical research laboratory for the Federal Institute of Industrial Research in the North East zone, located in Yola.
The laboratory is aimed at providing scientific conservation of food for export from the North East region, with the goal of boosting the economy through science and technology.
Speaking at the inauguration, Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Esuabana Asanye, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to developing the nation’s economy through science and technology.
The minister said the new office in Yola would focus on developing technologies that promote entrepreneurship development, as well as enhancing farming, fishing, and small and medium-scale enterprises.
Dr Jummai Adamu, the Director General of the Institute of Industrial Research, highlighted the institute’s role in providing a platform for people to excel through the impartation of innovative skills for job creation.
Adamu expressed confidence that the new laboratory would contribute significantly to the development of the North East region and the country at large.
The Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, also spoke at the event, reiterating the state government’s commitment to enabling a conducive environment for a technologically-driven society.
Farauta mentioned the state government’s investment in scholarships for students pursuing science and technology courses in tertiary institutions, as part of its efforts to promote technological advancement in the region.
The opening of the analytical research laboratory in Yola by the Federal Government is a significant step towards boosting agriculture and the economy in the North East region of Nigeria.
With a focus on science and technology, the laboratory is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing farming, fishing, and small and medium-scale enterprises, as well as promoting entrepreneurship development.
