FG Engages Stakeholders on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Alignment

The Federal Government has initiated a series of stakeholder engagements in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states to discuss the proposed alignments for sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Calabar-Southeast-North Central-Apo Abuja Superhighway.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, is leading the discussions, presenting plans for Sections 3B and 4 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project in Akwa Ibom.

The session, held on June 29, 2024, was attended by key stakeholders including Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, legislative committees, ministers, royal leaders, technocrats, the communications companies, media outlets, and the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The engagement aims to inform and involve communities along the highway routes about the project's potential to boost economic activities such as industrialization, tourism, agriculture, trade, and investment.

The stakeholders' meeting is crucial for understanding and addressing the concerns of local communities and ensuring their participation in the project's development.

On June 30, 2024, in Cross River State, Minister Umahi, alongside Governor Bassey Otu and other key attendees, will discuss the proposed alignment of Section 3A of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal roadway includes a 92-kilometer section that travels through Cross River State as part of the Calabar-Southeast-North Central-Apo Abuja Superhighway.

These road infrastructure projects are part of a larger initiative to create historic national interconnectivity, linking major transportation routes across Northern and Southern Nigeria.

A major component of this project is the 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which was granted to Hitech Construction Company Limited under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing (EPC+F) arrangement.

The first phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, stretching 47.7 kilometers from Eko Atlantic to Eleko in Lagos State, began in March 2024.

Construction is scheduled to start in the South-South states of Cross River and Akwa Ibom after the procurement procedure is finished.

The 477-kilometer Calabar-Southeast-North Central-Apo Abuja Superhighway, connecting Calabar to Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa States, ending in Apo, Abuja, is another key component of this ambitious project.

The Federal Government's commitment to these infrastructure projects underscores its dedication to enhancing national connectivity and economic development across the country.
