Federal Government Urges Labour to Reconsider Strike, Promises Commitment to Agreements

The Federal Government of Nigeria has urged the organized labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to reconsider their plan to embark on a nationwide strike.

The government has assured the labour unions that it keeps to its promises and is committed to resolving any differences through dialogue.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this appeal while addressing the allegations by the NLC and the TUC that the government has failed to honour the agreements it entered into with the unions and the worsening hardship faced by the people.

The labour unions had previously issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the federal government over these concerns.

The Minister stressed that the government is not in favour of the labour going on strike and called for further discussions to address any gray areas in the agreements.

He emphasized that the government is always ready to listen to the concerns of the labour unions and work towards an amicable resolution.

This call for dialogue comes at a time when the Nigerian economy is facing challenges, and the government is seeking to maintain industrial peace.

The NLC and the TUC have expressed their disappointment over the government’s perceived lack of concern for the mass suffering and hardship across the country.

The Federal Government’s appeal to the organized labour to reconsider its plan to go on strike and engage in further dialogue shows its commitment to addressing the concerns of the unions and the people.

It is now up to the NLC and the TUC to decide whether to accept the government’s invitation to the negotiating table or proceed with their strike plans.
