Nigeria's Federal Government has slashed train fares by half for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir holiday period. The transportation ministry announced the discount on Tuesday through its Permanent Secretary, Engr.
Funsho Adebiyi.
All Nigerian Railway Corporation passenger services across the country will offer the reduced rates. The discount runs from May 26 to June 1, 2026.
Passengers who already bought tickets at the old prices won't lose out. They'll receive a 50 percent rebate valid for any train journey up to June 1.
Routes benefiting from the cut include Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna, and Warri-Itakpe. Narrow gauge services operating in Lagos and Ogun State are also included.
Train schedules won't change during the festive period, officials confirmed. The ministry wants to ease travel costs for Nigerians heading home to celebrate.
In a statement, transportation authorities thanked Nigerians for their patronage. Officials wished all passengers and Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
