FCT Set to Appoint Nine Permanent Secretaries

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is set to appoint nine new Permanent Secretaries to the nine Secretariats of the FCT Administration, according to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

This development is in line with the provisions of the FCT Civil Service Commission Act, 2018, which President Bola Tinubu has approved for implementation.

During a press conference in Abuja on Monday after inspecting some road projects, the Minister emphasized that President Tinubu’s decision to implement the 2018 Act is a part of his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’

This agenda aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the FCTA by appointing the most senior directors as permanent secretaries in various sectors such as Agriculture, Transport and Economic Planning, Revenue Generation and Public Private Partnership, Education, Social Development, Legal Services, Area Council, Health and Environment, and Women Affairs.

Wike also mentioned that he had met with all the senior directors in the FCTA to inform them of the development and encouraged them to be dedicated to their duties.

He expressed his displeasure over delays in moving files and warned the directors against any delay that could sabotage the administration’s efforts.

The Minister stressed that the President’s decision to implement the 2018 Act would give the FCTA its own Head of Service and permanent secretaries for the nine secretariats.

He urged the directors to reciprocate the President’s efforts by committing themselves to work harder and ensuring that no file stays in a director’s office for more than three to four days.

With the appointment of the new Permanent Secretaries, the FCT is poised to improve its services and continue its development under the guidance of President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’
