FCT Minister Wike Demolishes Illegal Shops in Abuja Market

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has carried out his threat to demolish all illegal structures in the territory.

The FCTA authorities cleared away all the illegal shops that were built around the well-known Abuja (Area 1) Shopping Complex on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Muktar Galadima, the Director of the Department of Development Control, stated that the market was overcrowded and dirty and that it created a risk of fire and traffic congestion.

He stated that the traders who were impacted would be given other options for spaces, either in the complex or in other markets across the FCT.

Some of the traders expressed their displeasure with the demolition, saying that it would affect their livelihoods and businesses.
