FCT Minister Condemns Warehouse Looting, Vows to Punish Perpetrators

The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has condemned the looting of a warehouse in Abuja, Nigeria, and vowed to punish those responsible for the criminal act.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, March 4, 2024, has led to the arrest of 15 suspects, including two security guards employed by the warehouse management.

According to reports, the hoodlums who carried out the attack on the warehouse located at Gwagwa-Tasha, not only looted food items, but also vandalised the property and stole roofing sheets, windows, and even the gates of the facility.

The Minister described the incident as an unfortunate one and stressed that it was beyond hunger; it was a criminal act.

In response to the incident, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud stated that the FCT Administration would establish a police post in all its warehouses to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

She also assured that the administration would prosecute those behind the ugly incident and that the incident may delay the distribution of the palliative in the territory.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that 26 bags of maize, five motorcycles, and some vandalised aluminum roofing sheets were recovered from the suspects.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the authorities are working to ensure that all those responsible for the looting are brought to justice.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with various challenges, the FCT Minister’s strong stance against the warehouse looting serves as a reminder that the government is committed to protecting its citizens and ensuring that the rule of law is upheld.
