FCT Fire spokesman confirms no casualties in Samsung Headquarters fire

No one was injured as a fire broke out at the popular Samsung Headquarters near Banex Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja, according to the FCT Fire Spokesman, Mr. Ibrahim Tauheed.

He said in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja that the fire started at 7:38 p.m. on Nov. 6, when he received a distress call from Mrs. Ngozi, the owner of Mozini Spa, located behind Furniture House.

He said that the fire was commercial in nature and affected a two-story building filled with Samsung products.

He added that the fire was caused by careless welding activities near a pile of empty, flammable cartons, according to a preliminary investigation.

He said that the firefighters from Asokoro Fire Station arrived at the scene at 7:43 p.m., but they were attacked by some hoodlums who threw stones at their fire truck.

He said that the leader of the crew, DSF Ahmed Katsina, instructed the driver to take another route to Ahmadu Bello Way and alerted the police control room. The police arrived and dispersed the crowd by firing shots in the air and using tear gas.

He said that this delay allowed the fire to spread and intensify throughout the building.

He said that the firefighters, however, worked hard to prevent the fire from reaching nearby structures and the nearby filling station.

He said that many people had feared that the fire would spread to other buildings and the nearby filling station, but it did not, thanks to the combined efforts of multiple stations and agencies.

He said that the fire lasted for more than six hours, from 7:38 p.m. on Nov. 6 to 01:37 a.m. on Nov. 7, before it was finally put out.

He said that both the Federal Fire Service and FCT Fire Service kept one station each on standby until this morning.

He said that the acting director of the FCT Fire Service, Engr. Zacchaeus Adebayo, supervised the operations from the beginning until the end.

He praised the firefighters for their dedication and commitment and promised to improve operational conditions soon.
