Prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, musician Folarin Falana known as Falz, led thousands onto Lagos streets on Friday. They demanded urgent government action against surging insecurity and economic collapse.

The protest coincided with Nigeria's Democracy Day celebration. June 12 marks the anniversary of the 1993 presidential election, widely considered the nation's freest ever.

Crowds gathered under the Ikeja bridge, waving placards throughout the afternoon. Their signs read: "No Democracy Without Security," "End Bad Governance," and "End Insecurity and Kidnapping."

Other placards demanded: "End Hunger," "Free All Captives Now," and "End all anti-people policies now." Protesters chanted slogans as they marched through the area.

Falana used the platform to call for immediate rescue of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State. He expressed deep concern about their welfare in the hands of criminals.

According to him, the demonstration tackled multiple crises facing ordinary Nigerians simultaneously. Insecurity, injustice, and poverty topped the list of grievances.

"We are protesting the kidnapping of our children in Oyo State," Falana told the crowd. "We're also protesting injustice in our country, where school children have been held captive for several weeks."

He went further, criticizing police conduct on the nation's highways. Young people face regular harassment during routine road stops, he noted.

"We are protesting hunger and poverty in the land," the lawyer added. "Government must address these challenges immediately."

Falana, a respected human rights advocate, lamented the deteriorating situation. He regretted that one teacher had already been killed during captivity.

Authorities must intensify rescue operations, he urged the gathered officials. Lives depend on swift government intervention right now.

Falz also took the microphone to address fellow protesters. He described the security situation as increasingly unbearable for ordinary citizens.

"Everybody can see the worsening insecurity," the entertainer and activist stated plainly. Cases of kidnapping and murder continue rising across Nigerian communities.

He referenced recent abductions in various states, including Oyo and others. A relative of a former minister was among those kidnapped recently.

"Every Nigerian life matters and must be protected at all costs," Falz emphasized. Repeated student abductions have left the public deeply frustrated and anxious.

Meanwhile, thousands marched through Abuja streets behind activist Martins Vincent Otse. VeryDarkMan, as he's popularly known, recently returned from China to lead the demonstrations.

Abuja protesters wielded their own placards demanding immediate government response. They marched through major streets making their voices heard clearly.

When armed security operatives blocked their path, VDM confronted them directly. "You have bullets to shoot us?" he challenged the armed men.

He continued with sharp criticism of government priorities. "You have bullets to shoot kidnappers?

Carry your airplane and bomb them!"

VDM's rhetoric reflected widespread public anger at security failures. Citizens increasingly question why criminals face minimal consequences while ordinary people suffer.

Both Lagos and Abuja demonstrations reflected growing national frustration. Nigerians across the country demanded concrete solutions, not promises.

Security agencies face mounting pressure to deliver results quickly. The public's patience with empty assurances has worn dangerously thin.
