FAAN Shuts Down KFC at Lagos Airport Over Alleged Discrimination of Former Governor Gbenga Daniel’s Son

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken decisive action against the popular fast-food chain, KFC, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The move comes in response to allegations of discrimination involving a physically-challenged individual, Adebola Daniel, who happens to be the son of former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel.

The incident, which has sparked outrage across social media platforms, has prompted the FAAN to close down the KFC branch at the airport, citing a violation of the Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, Part C, Section 55 of General Provisions on Discrimination.

The decision was made after a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) took to X to share their harrowing experience of being denied access to the KFC outlet at the airport.

In a series of tweets, Adebola Daniel recounted the humiliating ordeal, describing it as “the worst sort of public humiliation” he had ever faced.

He went on to state that “to be disabled in Nigeria is to be undesirable, unwelcome, and unaccepted,” highlighting the ongoing struggle for disability rights and inclusivity in the country.

The incident has prompted the FAAN to issue an apology to the affected passenger and demand that the KFC management tender an unreserved apology and implement a non-discrimination policy at the airport’s branch before it is allowed to resume operations.

FAAN has also pledged to continue working tirelessly to ensure that the rights of every passenger are not infringed upon.

KFC has responded to the allegations, stating that they are unwavering in their stance against bias or discrimination in any form and that this incident has underscored the pressing need for immediate action.

The company has announced that it is implementing sensitivity training for all employees and exploring solutions to better equip their team members and establishments to ensure that every guest feels genuinely welcomed.
