Ex-Minister Sadiya Finally Honors EFCC’s Invitation Over Alleged N37bn Fraud

The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has finally honored the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to clarify allegations of a N37bn fraud that occurred during her tenure.

The EFCC had previously invited the ex-minister to shed light on the alleged fraud involving a contractor named James Okwete, who was connected to a suspicious transfer of N37.1 billion from the federal government’s coffers to various bank accounts.

After initially failing to honor the invitation, the former minister eventually arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday morning to offer her clarifications.

In a X post, she stated, “I have, at my behest, arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to honor the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications in respect of some issues that the commission is investigating.”

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the EFCC continues to probe the matter.
