Greg Etafia has taken up a position as goalkeeper coach at Young Africans, the Tanzanian football powerhouse. He joins the club's revamped coaching setup under the leadership of Manqoba Mngqithi.
Etafia, 43, spent 12 years as a player with Moroka Swallows between 2003 and 2015 after leaving Nigeria. Before that, he featured for Lobi Stars and Plateau United in the Nigeria Premier Football League, establishing himself as a reliable custodian.
His coaching journey began at Moroka Swallows in 2015. He was handed the caretaker manager's role in March 2016, managing the South African club before moving on.
Cape Town All Stars recruited him in September 2016 as a goalkeeper coach. The club then promoted him to caretaker coach, and he delivered results that mattered.
In that spell, Etafia lifted All Stars from the relegation zone into 14th place and steered them to the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup. His work caught the attention of other clubs seeking his expertise.
He went on to serve as goalkeeper coach at Baroka FC and later at TS Galaxy, building a strong reputation in the coaching ranks. His experience across multiple South African clubs made him an attractive prospect for bigger opportunities.
Etafia represented Nigeria's U-23 team at the 2000 Summer Olympics, adding international pedigree to his playing CV. Young Africans will be banking on his experience to sharpen their goalkeeping unit as they pursue domestic and continental glory.
