The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has voiced criticism against the federal government's interference in state matters, particularly those concerning traditional and chieftaincy affairs.

He emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional principles and maintaining a clear separation of powers to ensure accountable governance.

During an interview with Vanguard, Sanusi also expressed his views on regionalism and the parliamentary system of government, stating that these are not the solutions to Nigeria's problems.

He questioned the necessity of a bicameral legislature and the rationale behind appointing ministers from every state, even when not required, as it contributes to bureaucratic inefficiencies and does not necessarily serve the best interests of the nation.

Sanusi further asserted that regionalism would exacerbate the issues in the country rather than resolve existing tensions.

He highlighted the need to address the structures that grant excessive power to the centre and suggested that resources should be devolved to the states, where they can directly impact the vast majority of Nigerians through primary education and primary healthcare.

Regarding the situation in Kano, Sanusi emphasized that chieftaincy matters are 100 percent state matters and criticized the federal government's interference in such issues.
