Immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has been honoured with the “Best Security Supportive Politician of the Year” award at the maiden RazorNews Inter-Agency Cooperation Awards, held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Shoragate Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

The recognition celebrates political figures whose actions have significantly reinforced Nigeria’s security system through inter-agency collaboration, intelligence support, and legislative interventions.

The award was presented by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, on behalf of the organisers. According to RazorNews, the honour highlights Elumelu’s “unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security agencies and promoting inter-agency harmony at both legislative and grassroots levels.”

The event, themed “Inter-Agency Unity: The Power of Collective Action,” gathered top stakeholders from the defence, intelligence, police, emergency response, political institutions, and private security sectors. Organisers said the awards aim to celebrate individuals who work “behind the scenes” to empower security agencies in responding to evolving national threats.

Elumelu, who served as Minority Leader from 2019 to 2023, has been widely commended for motions and legislative interventions addressing insurgency, banditry, illegal arms proliferation, cybercrime, youth restiveness and violent rural attacks. His constituency projects also integrated safety initiatives, including community surveillance programmes and support for local vigilante structures working under formal security agencies.

Over the years, he has built residential quarters and a staff clinic for DSS operatives, renovated DSS facilities, rehabilitated police stations, provided operational vehicles, and upgraded the NSCDC command office with national grid connection and solar lighting. He also installed hundreds of solar streetlights to improve nighttime safety and enhance security visibility.

The ceremony likewise honoured top national institutions such as the Nigerian Army (Outstanding Defence Force of the Year), the Nigeria Customs Service (Illicit Arms and Drug Interception Award), and leading private security firms for operational excellence. Organisers stressed that collaboration, unity, and shared responsibility remain central to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Political observers note that Elumelu’s recognition further reinforces his reputation as a statesman whose influence extends beyond legislation into national cohesion and security advocacy, demonstrating the critical role political leadership plays in strengthening national stability.
