Electricity Tariffs Hike: AEDC Apologizes to Customers for Mix-up

Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) has issued an apology to its customers for wrongly charging those in Band A who have been reclassified to Band B due to a system glitch.

The error occurred following the implementation of the new tariff regime, which saw a rise in electricity tariffs for customers in the Band A category.

AEDC’s Vice Chairman, Musliu Oseni, announced the tariff adjustment, increasing the rate from N66 to N225 per kilowatt-hour.

The company acknowledged the inconvenience caused to its customers and assured them that it is working to rectify the situation.

AEDC explained that the system glitch resulted in some customers in Band A who tried to recharge their meters being charged the new tariff of N225 per kilowatt-hour, while others were charged at the old rate.

The company has stated that it is identifying the affected customers and will refund any excess charges.

AEDC also clarified that customers who were previously in Band A and are now in Band B will be charged the new rate of N225, which is intended to ensure they receive a minimum supply of 20 hours of electricity daily.

The company emphasized its commitment to improving the power supply to all categories of customers and asked for understanding and support during this transition.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had earlier given the go-ahead for the increase in electricity rates for customers in the Band A category.

The tariff adjustment, announced by Oseni, is aimed at improving the power supply and addressing the challenges faced by customers in terms of electricity availability.

As AEDC works to resolve the system glitch and refund any excess charges, customers are urged to remain patient and contact the company’s customer service for any inquiries or assistance.
