EFCC probes former governors, ministers, others over alleged corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that it is investigating some former governors, former ministers, and some ministry officials over allegations of corruption and money laundering.

The public officials are under investigation by the EFCC following several complaints of corruption and money laundering. The agency said it will soon disclose the details of their alleged crimes.

The EFCC also announced that it has recovered N27.18 billion and $19.08 million from three different cases it has handled and that it is working hard to retrieve more illegal funds. The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said the agency is carrying out its duties according to its mandate and that it is enhancing its prevention measures, risk analysis, and recovery operations.

Oyewale said the EFCC is also probing some monumental procurement fraud involving some officials of the Federal Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Agriculture. He said funds meant for the Mambilla and Zungeru Power projects were diverted through various Bureau de Change operators and that several houses purchased with the funds are being recovered.

The EFCC spokesperson said the commission will not relent in its fight against corruption and urged Nigerians to support its efforts by reporting any suspicious activities or transactions to the agency.
