EDSG signs MOU for reconstruction of Benin/Asaba expressway

Edo State Government has signed a N228b agreement with the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria ( Infracorp) and AAA Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (Triple-A Infrastructure) for the reconstruction of the Benin/Asaba expressway.

Speaking to pressmen who were in his office in Benin City, the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Engr. Ethan Uzamere highlighted the economic benefits of the road, explaining that the Benin/Asaba expressway when reconstructed will reduce transportation costs for motorists and entrepreneurs, increase trade and investment, and improve access to markets that will help stimulate trade domestically and regionally.

Engr. Uzamere said that because of the significance of the road and the very concerning issues that have emanated from its failed portions, the State Government had to do remedial work on the road.

When asked how the project will be funded, the Commissioner hinted that the project will get funds from Triple-A Infrastructure and Infracorp, with the support of Edo State Government as an equity investor under the twenty-five years Highway Development Management Initiative ( HDMI ) Concession to Africa plus partners.

Engr. Uzamere stated that the road reconstruction will commence from Edo to Asaba in Delta State and terminate at the second Niger bridge adding that it would be expanded to ten lanes in some locations, while eight lanes would be constructed in other areas.

He also assured that the road will meet world-class standards and will be delivered at the set time.
