Edo State police have arrested Kelly Okungbowa, known as Ebo Stone, over allegations he assaulted a police officer. Okungbowa is a political associate of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The alleged incident took place on May 30, 2026, along Upper Sakponba Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. According to police sources, the officer was performing routine duties when Okungbowa allegedly attacked him.

State Police Public Relations Officer Eno Ikoedem confirmed the arrest in a statement to reporters. She said Okungbowa remains in custody pending investigation and court proceedings.

No one stands above the law, Ikoedem stressed to the public. She called on citizens to show respect for police officers executing their lawful functions.

Human rights campaigner Kola Edokpayi, who heads the Talakawa Parliament, weighed in on the matter. He condemned what he termed an unacceptable assault.

According to Edokpayi, the officers displayed commendable restraint and professionalism under difficult circumstances. Police deserve respect as public servants dedicated to community safety, he noted.

Grievances against security personnel must be handled through proper channels, not physical confrontation, Edokpayi argued. He said this approach protects both citizens and law enforcement.
