Nigeria's African Democratic Congress took aim at the federal government on Wednesday over its celebration of GDP growth figures.

The party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the economic metrics as hollow. "People do not eat GDP," he declared in a statement.

According to Abdullahi, growth means nothing if it doesn't bring cheaper food, more jobs, or stronger purchasing power to ordinary Nigerians.

Millions of citizens remain trapped in poverty, joblessness, and hunger despite government progress claims, the ADC argued.

Food prices haven't budged. Transportation costs have climbed sharply, and small business owners are struggling under inflation and high energy bills.

Workers' salaries have lost purchasing power, leaving families in survival mode, party officials noted.

Statistics on paper mean little when citizens can't afford basic goods, the ADC contended. Real economic success should be measured by whether Nigerians live better, not by what reports say.

The party urged government to stop celebrating numbers and adopt policies that directly help people survive and thrive.

Party National Chairman Senator David Mark struck a different note. He promised the ADC would field strong candidates for future elections.

Mark called for unity within party ranks as it prepares for upcoming polls. Recent member departures won't weaken their determination, he insisted.
