Didier Drogba has attacked the video assistant referee system after Côte d'Ivoire's exit from the 2026 World Cup. The Elephants fell 2-1 to Norway in their Round of 32 match on Tuesday night.

Antonio Nusa gave Norway the lead in the opening half. Amad Diallo equalised for the Ivorians, but Erling Haaland sealed the win with a late goal.

Drogba vented his frustration on X, questioning why Nicolas Pépé wasn't awarded a penalty for a challenge in the box. "Disgraceful that penalty not given for Nicolas Pépé... what is VAR even for?" he wrote.

The former Chelsea striker believes the referee system failed to protect his side during the crucial match. His criticism highlighted the controversial nature of the penalty decision that went against Côte d'Ivoire.

Norway will face Brazil in the last 16 of the tournament. The South Americans advanced through their own Round of 32 tie to set up the knockout clash.
