In a move aimed at improving grassroots infrastructure, Azuka Enebeli, the member representing Ndokwa nation in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), has launched a key road project to strengthen internal road networks across Ukwuani Local Government Area.
The initiative, which began on March 12, 2026, commenced with the revitalisation of the Umutu–Umuaja link road, a critical route expected to enhance connectivity between the neighbouring communities. The project involves grading and sand-filling of strategic internal roads to improve accessibility and mobility.
According to Enebeli, the Umutu–Umuaja road project forms part of broader efforts to address long-standing infrastructure challenges that have hindered the efficient movement of people, goods and services within the area.
He explained that the road serves as a vital link between the two communities, both of which have historically faced challenges with intra-community transportation.
“The road is considered a vital link that will bridge transportation gaps and ease the flow of traffic between Umutu and Umuaja,” he said.
Enebeli added that the initiative reflects his vision of building a more integrated and economically vibrant Ukwuani, noting that the project is not only designed to ease transportation but also to promote trade, strengthen social ties and improve the overall living standards of residents.
He further stated that the internal roads project would connect major access points between the communities, enabling smoother and more efficient transportation while facilitating the movement of agricultural produce and other goods across the area.
The improved road network, he noted, is expected to support local businesses, reduce the logistical challenges faced by traders and farmers, and stimulate economic activities within Umutu, Umuaja and surrounding communities.
The project, according to stakeholders, underscores Enebeli’s commitment to the development of Ukwuani communities by promoting better connectivity, economic growth and sustainable progress.
