Desmond Elliott, who represents Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has criticized politicians who switch parties. He believes such moves won't deliver the transformation Nigeria desperately needs.
During an appearance on 'The Morayo Show', Elliott spoke candidly about leadership and governance. The lawmaker questioned the logic behind party-hopping in Nigeria's political landscape.
Elliott stressed that abandoning one's political base isn't the solution to Nigeria's problems. In his view, staying put and delivering results matters far more than chasing greener pastures.
"My kind of politician doesn't steal," he declared. According to him, his track record in Surulere speaks volumes about his commitment to service.
He pointed to concrete improvements across the constituency over the past decade. "Electricity is now there, healthcare is there," Elliott noted, describing how Surulere has transformed from a neglected area.
Elliott, a former Nollywood actor, reminded his audience that public office isn't about personal status. He stressed that leadership is temporary and demands humility above all else.
Many politicians forget that power is transient, he observed. It can vanish as quickly as it arrives, leaving nothing but a tarnished legacy.
He posed a critical question to party-switchers. "If I leave Asiwaju for Obi, what changes?
If I leave Obi for Atiku, what's different?" Elliott asked rhetorically.
