Delta State Government Warns Against Illegal Waste Disposal in Road Median and Drainages

The Delta State Government has issued a stern warning against the illegal disposal of waste on road medians, inside drainages, and the obstruction of free-flowing water, particularly during the rainy season.

This announcement was made by the Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Hon. Patrick Ukah, during a recent inspection of residential and business premises within the capital territory and its environs.

Ukah expressed concern over the lack of appreciation for the government’s efforts to maintain a clean and sustainable environment, and he emphasized the need for cooperation from residents, business owners, and other stakeholders.

He cautioned that the state would not hesitate to prosecute offenders in accordance with the law.

In addition, magistrates at Mobile Courts have already begun prosecuting landlords, occupiers, and business owners who violate the state’s sanitation laws.

The government is also urging residents to register with waste managers and has vowed to sanction any non-compliant waste management companies.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB), Barr Latimore Oghenesivbe, has called on journalists in the state to collaborate with the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration in promoting cities’ beautification and cleanliness advocacy.

Oghenesivbe highlighted the health hazards posed by a dirty environment and stressed the importance of citizens fulfilling their civic responsibilities.

As the Delta State Government continues to prioritize environmental sustainability, it is essential for residents, business owners, and property developers to adhere to the sanitation laws and avoid any actions that may lead to the blockage of drainages or the improper disposal of waste.
