A coalition of professionals, politicians, and thought leaders under the banner of Delta North Progressives has been formed in Delta State to promote unity, cohesion, and equitable political representation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, comprising prominent individuals from the Delta North Senatorial District’s nine Local Government Areas, seeks to amplify the region’s political influence and assert its rightful place in the state and national political landscape.
In a press statement signed by the convener, Prof. Leroy Edozien, and made available to journalists on Thursday, the coalition affirmed its commitment to fostering unity and visibility within Delta North while upholding the tenets of democracy.
“In the rapidly evolving political climate ahead of the next electoral cycle, it is imperative for Delta North to gear up, take its rightful place, and speak assertively,” Edozien stated. “Leaders in the progressive movement must work in harmony, build cohesion, and uphold the basic principles of democracy.”
The self-funded group has already begun engaging influential figures across Anioma, the region’s ethnic identity, to share its vision and gain support. The outreach aims to create a united front, ensuring Delta North remains a formidable force in shaping political developments in Delta State and beyond.
Brainstorming sessions have also been held to refine strategies and objectives, focusing on securing a more equitable political representation for the district in the next dispensation.
“The group is resolutely committed to ensuring that Delta North receives a fair political deal in the coming elections,” the statement added.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace, the Delta North Progressives coalition aims to be a unifying platform that champions the aspirations of the district and strengthens its political relevance.
