The former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and the state’s representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, has described Delta State as a "low-hanging fruit" ripe for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to claim in 2027, provided the party resolves its internal divisions.
Igbuya made this statement during the recent visit of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the APC gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, to party leaders and faithful in Sapele. He called on APC leaders in Delta State to prioritize unity and strategic reconciliation, emphasizing that winning the governorship in 2027 is achievable if the party stands together.
“Delta State today is a low-hanging fruit ready for anyone to pick, and the only person who can pick it is us,” Igbuya declared to an enthusiastic audience of party leaders and supporters from the 11 wards of Sapele Local Government Area. He stressed the urgent need for unity and collaboration within the party, warning that divisions have historically derailed the APC’s progress in the state.
“We cannot keep allowing divisions to emerge every election cycle,” Igbuya cautioned. “We need to end these internal disputes. If we had won the last election, many of us here would be commissioners, special advisers, or board members. We need all hands on deck to achieve victory in 2027.”
Igbuya appealed to the APC’s national leadership to help foster peace within the Delta chapter, saying, “Please, beg those at the top for us. We need unity and peace in Delta APC. We cannot afford further divisions that will weaken our chances in 2027.” He also highlighted APC’s improved performance in the 2023 elections, noting it as evidence of the party’s growing influence and potential for success.
Reflecting on the party’s near-success in the last elections, Igbuya stated, “Our gains show that with proper reconciliation and consolidation, we can win Delta Central and reclaim Sapele and Okpe. The momentum is on our side if we make the right moves now.”

In his remarks, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege echoed Igbuya’s sentiments, praising local APC members for their sacrifices during the 2023 elections. “We came close, but now we need to ask ourselves where we fell short and address those areas. This gathering is a step in the right direction,” Omo-Agege said. He emphasized the importance of genuine reconciliation in strengthening the party’s foundation ahead of the next elections.
“Only a madman would refuse peace,” Omo-Agege noted. “We are prepared for genuine reconciliation, and this meeting demonstrates that resolve. Our desire to win in 2027 will overcome any challenges if we work together.”
With 2027 on the horizon, Igbuya’s rallying cry for unity and Omo-Agege’s call for reconciliation signal an opportunity for the APC to mount a formidable challenge to the PDP’s dominance in Delta State.
