President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has swept the All Progressives Congress presidential primary in Delta State. He garnered 407,646 votes in Saturday's exercise across all 25 local government areas.
His sole opponent, Stanley Osifo, failed to secure any votes in the contest. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who served as State Coordinator and Returning Officer, announced the results in Asaba after collating figures from across the state.
According to Governor Oborevwori, the APC had 467,815 registered members in Delta. Of this number, 407,646 members were accredited and voted in the primary election.
The governor made the official declaration at the collation center. "By the powers conferred on me as the State Coordinator and Returning Officer, I hereby declare that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having polled overwhelming votes in the presidential primary election, is hereby declared winner," he said.
Security officials, journalists, and party stakeholders witnessed the announcement. President Tinubu's agent, Hon.
Funkekeme Solomon, was present alongside Osifo's representative, Kelvin Ezekiel, and the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren.
Governor Oborevwori praised party members for conducting the election peacefully. He noted that the exercise demonstrated unity within the party across the state.
Delta State APC Chairman Chief Solomon Arenyeka also commended members for the orderly process. In his words, "Today is the climax of the party primaries, which started from the House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly, governorship, and presidential primaries."
Arenyeka noted that all primary elections had concluded without incident. "We thank God for the peaceful conduct of all the primary elections across Delta State," the chairman stated.
Saturday's primary brings the APC's internal electoral process to a close. The party now prepares for the next phase of its political activities ahead of general elections.
