The Delta State Past Students Leaders Community, popularly known as the Delta Comrade Community, has launched a broad-based public engagement and media campaign ahead of the anticipated referendum on the creation of Anioma State.
According to a statement signed by its President, Comrade Akpotoboro Oghenemaro, the group said the initiative is designed “to educate, inform, and engage the people of Delta North, Deltans, and Nigerians at large on the social, economic, and political implications of the proposed state.”
In the statement jointly endorsed by the Secretary-General, Comrade Barr. Efole Andrew and the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Yisah Peter, described the organisation as “a vibrant and diverse network of past student leaders, graduates, and activists from higher institutions across Nigeria and the diaspora — united by our shared history in student unionism and activism.”
The group emphasised that the campaign will feature an “extensive social media awareness drive” as well as a series of town hall meetings across the three federal constituencies in Delta North — Ika, Ndokwa/Ukwuani, and Aniocha/Oshimili.
“These town hall sessions will serve as open platforms for stakeholders, youths, women, and community leaders to express their views, raise concerns, and share insights on the Anioma State proposal,” the statement added. The Comrade Community emphasised that its goal is to provide “accurate, balanced, and unbiased information,” noting that feedback from the engagement would inform its final position on the state creation question.
Calling for broad participation, the group urged “all stakeholders, especially youths and women from Delta North, across Nigeria, and in the diaspora, to actively participate and contribute to shaping the future of Delta North (Anioma).” It reaffirmed its commitment to working with the public, with a rallying message: “Together, let’s shape the destiny of our region.”
