The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Delta Central Senatorial District has underscored the importance of strict adherence to the party’s Constitution to ensure effective and harmonious relations among the various organs of the party.
The Delta State PDP Vice Chairman and Delta Central PDP Chairman, Chief Anthony Akpomiemie, stated this on Wednesday during the meeting with the PDP Unit Chairmen Forum of Ughelli North Chapter.
This forum includes chairmen representing 400 units across the 11 wards in Ughelli North Local Government Area. The meeting was organized after the forum wrote a congratulatory letter to Delta State PDP Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyinka following his appointment.
Chief Akpomiemie commended the forum’s founders for their initiative to galvanize and mobilize party members for election efforts, calling the forum a unique asset within Delta Central.
"This gathering is a unique one. No other local government area has this," said Akpomiemie.
The Delta Central PDP chairman, however, noted that the existence and activities of the forum should not be done in isolation of the Ward and other organs of the party as enshrined in the party's Constitution.
Going forward, Chief Akpomiemie told the Unit chairmen that at every given time, they must explore the organs of the PDP, which exist from the Ward, State, Zonal, and National on any issue.
He said, "For anything we want to do please let's try as much as possible to work within the Constitution. Yes, there could be pressure groups, it is allowed. They are all children of PDP.
"If there is any dispute in any Ward, the Ward should settle that issue. If the Ward cannot settle it, it should go to the LGA level. If the LGA level cannot settle it, it should come to this office (Delta Central). If we cannot settle it, it moves to the state level. I am sure it can be settled there.
He advised the forum to operate in synergy with ward and other party organs, stressing, “Let us not breach protocol. For any action, let’s work within the Constitution and ensure collaboration at all levels, from ward to national, to move PDP forward.
"We must work together. You must work in synergy with your Ward, LGA, Senatorial down to the State so that we can move in an orderly manner."
Earlier, the Chairman of the PDP Unit Chairmen Forum, Comrade Nicholas Evwienure, expressed the forum’s commitment to grassroots mobilization and assured Chief Arenyinka of their dedication to securing the party’s victory in upcoming elections.
According to him, "As the lowest organ of the party, our primary assignment is to mobilize the grassroots, electorates, to vote for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in all elections conducted by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DRIED) respectively.
"Our mandate is to campaign door to door, neighbour to neighbour, and street to street through canvassing for votes for PDP in all future elections, most especially the upcoming 2027 general election."
Comrade Evwienure went on to assure the Delta State PDP chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyinka, that under his leadership the forum will work assiduously to ensure the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections.
The meeting concluded with a vote of confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his development initiatives in Delta State, with Comrade Evwienure moving the motion and Francis Iwhewhe seconding it.
