Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Friday met at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, with a strong call for unity, intensified e-registration, grassroots mobilisation and early preparedness for the party’s forthcoming congresses.
Speaking at the high-level meeting, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said leadership must draw its legitimacy from the people and be anchored on humility, empathy and service. He urged party leaders and members to place collective interest above personal ambitions, warning that internal division and avoidable conflicts could undermine the party’s progress.
According to the governor, meetings of such nature provide an avenue to assess achievements, strengthen party structures and prepare for critical political milestones. He stressed that mobilisation, registration and active participation would ultimately determine electoral success, noting that the party’s ability to deliver massive votes for President Bola Tinubu and other candidates in the 2027 elections would define its strength and capacity to attract federal presence and support.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, also charged party members to remain focused as the APC approaches its congresses. He commended the progress recorded so far in the e-registration exercise and described the party as increasingly diverse and inclusive. Keyamo cautioned against rumours and unnecessary delays, advocated early engagement and grassroots consensus-building, and urged dialogue to reduce tension.
Immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, thanked Governor Oborevwori for convening the meeting, describing his visit to Government House after many years as a demonstration of inclusiveness. He pledged to work in unity with the governor and other stakeholders to further strengthen the APC in the state.
Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, commended stakeholders for sustaining unity and engagement, calling for intensified grassroots mobilisation to deepen e-registration by taking the exercise directly to homes and communities. He emphasised inclusiveness and consensus in the conduct of the congresses, praised Governor Oborevwori’s role in fostering harmony, and urged leaders to return to their constituencies with renewed commitment.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Felix Morka, lauded the governor’s leadership and the digitalisation of the APC membership register, recommending a consensus-driven approach for the forthcoming congresses.
In his welcome address, the State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, disclosed that the party had recorded over 90 per cent realignment since April 2025, describing the gathering as evidence of growing unity and momentum within the APC in Delta State.
Providing updates on e-registration and congress preparations, Delta North APC Chairman, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka, reported relative peace in the district but noted challenges with registration. Delta Central Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, said Okpe Local Government was leading registration efforts statewide and appealed for restraint pending the release of official guidelines. Delta South Chairman, Prince Austin Oribioye, called for the resolution of technical glitches to enable the district meet its targets.
The State E-Registration Coordinator, Prince Fred Mordi, disclosed that Delta State was selected to host the South-South training, adding that registration figures were rising steadily despite minor challenges. He expressed confidence that the state would meet its targets before the deadline.
The meeting ended with a minute of silence in honour of the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate.
