Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) is already delivering tangible benefits to the state, citing improved revenue flow, governance outcomes, and stronger federal alignment.
Speaking to journalists on Friday night at the APC National Elective Convention held at Eagle Square, the governor said his April 2025 defection was a strategic move to connect Delta State to the “centre,” a decision he noted has since been vindicated.
“That bold decision we took on April 28, 2025, is manifesting today. We wanted to connect with the centre, and we have connected. Other governors have also emulated that decision,” Oborevwori said.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the convention, describing it as a reflection of the APC’s growing national dominance and cohesion. He noted that the increasing number of governors joining the party underscores confidence in its leadership and direction.
Oborevwori also threw his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as “focused and bold,” with policies already yielding results despite initial challenges.
“We are happy with the decision we took because the policies and programmes of Mr President are working. It is a gradual process. We know Nigerians are going through challenges, but the results are beginning to show,” he stated.
Highlighting the impact of improved federal allocations, the governor said states are now better positioned to meet key obligations. According to him, the increase in revenue has made it easier to pay salaries, settle contractors, and execute development projects.
“Before now, it was difficult to meet obligations, but today we can pay salaries and contractors. A lot of things are working for us,” he added.
He further noted that the APC currently controls 31 states, describing it as an unprecedented milestone in Nigeria’s political history since 1999. According to him, the large turnout at the convention signals growing national support for the party and the President’s leadership.
Looking ahead, Oborevwori expressed optimism that Nigerians would reward the administration with re-election in 2027, citing ongoing reforms and policy direction.
On his administration’s performance, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy, pointing to progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
He also highlighted increased oil production in Delta State, attributing it to improved security and the absence of attacks on oil facilities.
“Delta State remains number one in oil production, and we are going to do more for our people,” he said.
The governor urged residents to continue supporting both the federal and state governments, assuring them of sustained efforts to improve living standards and overall development.
