Dangote Group Clarifies EFCC’s Visit: A Transparent Response to Allegations

The Dangote Group, one of Africa’s largest conglomerates, has provided clarification on the visit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to their headquarters.

The visit, which took place on January 4, 2024, was part of an ongoing investigation into foreign exchange allocations during the tenure of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The company has made it clear that they received a letter from the EFCC in the first week of December 2023, requesting details of all the foreign exchange allocated to the company by the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2014 to the present.

In response, the Dangote Group has stated that they have provided the first batch of documents and are actively working to compile and submit the remaining documents, in good time, to aid the investigation.

In a statement, the company emphasized that they are a law-abiding and ethical corporate citizen, committed to providing the EFCC with all necessary information and cooperation.

They have also made it clear that no accusations of wrongdoing have been made against any company within their Group.

The Dangote Group’s clarification comes at a time when the EFCC has been visiting the offices of several other companies as part of the same investigation.

This move by the EFCC has sparked some controversy, with some questioning the motives behind the visits.

However, the Dangote Group has remained steadfast in their commitment to transparency and cooperation with the authorities.

The visit of the EFCC to the Dangote Group’s headquarters has shed light on the ongoing investigation into foreign exchange allocations during the tenure of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
