Customs Impound Police Uniforms, Seize Contraband Goods Worth N406m

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) made a significant seizure of contraband goods worth N406m, including a large number of police uniforms.

The operation, conducted by the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, took place in November 2023 and involved the interception of nine trailers loaded with contraband goods.

Acting Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu of the FOU Zone A revealed that the seized items included 18,100 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 376 bales of used clothes, in addition to the police uniforms.

The seizure comes as part of the NCS’s ongoing efforts to curb smuggling and protect the Nigerian economy.

The NCS has been actively cracking down on smuggling activities in recent months, as evidenced by the numerous seizures reported by various Customs Area Controllers.

The interception of contraband goods has been a top priority for the NCS, as it aims to protect local industries and prevent the influx of illegal and potentially harmful products.

The seizure of police uniforms raises concerns about the potential misuse of these items, and the NCS has assured the public that they are working closely with other law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter.

The NCS has also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to smuggling or the illegal importation of goods.

The recent seizure of contraband goods worth N406m, including police uniforms, by the Nigeria Customs Service highlights the ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and protect the Nigerian economy.

The NCS remains committed to its mission and will continue to work with other agencies to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
