The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Police Command to stronger inter-agency collaboration in tackling kidnapping, armed robbery, drug trafficking, child trafficking and other violent crimes across the state.
CP Oyeniyi made the call during separate strategic courtesy visits to the 63 Brigade Nigerian Army and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Delta State Command, on Monday, alongside members of the Command Management Team.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the visits were part of ongoing efforts to deepen security cooperation and intelligence sharing among security agencies operating in Delta State.
During the engagements, the police commissioner stressed that emerging security threats were increasingly interconnected and could only be effectively addressed through coordinated action among security agencies.
“Crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, child trafficking and drug-related offences are interconnected and require a unified, intelligence-led response,” Oyeniyi stated.
The CP particularly highlighted the growing danger posed by drug abuse and trafficking, describing narcotics-related crimes as a major catalyst for insecurity and youth involvement in criminal activities.
Speaking during the visit to the NDLEA Command, Oyeniyi called for intensified joint operations against drug cartels and substance abuse networks operating within the state.
He noted that “drug trafficking and abuse remain major drivers of crime and a serious threat to the future of young people,” stressing the need for sustained cooperation between the Police and NDLEA in dismantling criminal syndicates.
