Court sentences security guard to 10 years imprisonment for armed robbery

The Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday, sentenced a security guard, one Ojo Adeoye, to 10 years imprisonment for armed robbery.

Justice E. O. Ajayi, convicted Adeoye, who was arraigned on a two- count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery, after the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Delivering his judgment, Ajayi said that the convict was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for armed robbery and two years for conspiracy.

He held that the sentence would run concurrently and was without an option of fine.

Earlier, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions  (DDPP) in Oyo State, Mr Oloso Olayiwola told the court that the convict committed the offences  with some others still at large on March 19, 2020 at 1:30 a.m., at Idi-Osan area of Ibadan,

Olayiwola said that the convict and his accomplices while armed with guns and other dangerous weapons robbed  residents of the area of their valuables.

He said that the gang members robbed residents of their cell phones and cash.

The DPP said that the offences contravened Sections 6 (b), 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms laws of the federation, 2004.
