CICC Urges Tinubu to Extend Amnesty to Nnamdi Kanu and Pro-Biafra Activists

The Concerned Igbo Citizens Council (CICC) has urged the Federal Government to release all pro-Biafra activists and other Nigerians incarcerated for self-determination agitations, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to a free society.

The group specifically highlighted the need for the amnesty granted to Sunday Igboho and Omoyele Sowore to be extended to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his supporters.

The CICC, in a statement signed by its interim National Coordinator, Comrade Ukachukwu Obioha, and interim National Secretary, Mazi James Okorie, emphasized the importance of extending the same amnesty to Nnamdi Kanu and all other Nigerians detained for similar activities.

They argued that the continued detention of Kanu and hundreds of Igbo youths, while their Yoruba counterparts have been granted reprieve, gives an “unsavory ethnic and sectional coloration” to the Federal Government’s actions.

The group further called on the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to investigate and compile a list of those killed, maimed, and unlawfully incarcerated for self-determination agitations across the board.

The CICC also urged Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Igbo governors, and others advocating for Kanu’s release not to forget his numerous supporters who are also facing persecution.

They emphasized the importance of mobilizing Nigerians across ethnic lines to stand up and assert their rights to a free society.

As Nigeria navigates this complex landscape of self-determination and ethnic tensions, the CICC’s call for amnesty and a comprehensive investigation into the treatment of activists and supporters serves as a reminder of the importance of justice and equality in a diverse and complex nation.
