Cement Price Hike: FG Threatens to Open Borders for Importation

the Federal Government has issued a stern warning to cement manufacturers in Nigeria.

The government has threatened to open the borders for cement importation if the manufacturers fail to bring down the cost of cement, which has been steadily increasing over the past few months.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mr Ahmed Dangiwa, expressed concerns about the alarming increase in the prices of cement and other building materials.

He stated that the government is not the only country facing these challenges, but as a responsible government, it is their duty to ensure that the interests of the citizens are protected.

The minister also mentioned that the recurring price hike in cement has led to an increase in the cost of housing and construction, making it difficult for many Nigerians to afford decent homes.

This situation has prompted the government to consider opening the borders for cement importation to increase competition and reduce the cost of the product.

It remains to be seen how the cement manufacturers will respond to this threat, but one thing is clear: the government is determined to take decisive action to protect the interests of its citizens.
