Political analyst Buhari Yusuf has criticized the Peter Obi-Rabiʻu Kwankwaso alliance strategy ahead of 2027. He called their single-term plan a risky political move in an interview Monday on Trust TV.
According to Yusuf, the arrangement poses serious dangers to Nigeria's democratic process. He questioned why both candidates would agree to serve just four years.
Yusuf suggested Obi's willingness to compromise stems from political desperation. He believes the former presidential candidate sees limited room to compete otherwise.
"The calculation itself is dangerous," Yusuf noted during the broadcast. He added that it reflects a problematic approach to power-sharing.
Beyond the Obi-Kwankwaso arrangement, Yusuf raised broader concerns about democracy's operating space. He predicted Nigerian politics will witness intense competition between parties seeking voter attention.
He observed that Nigerian voters historically gravitate toward novelty in politics. "We always subscribe for newer things," he told the interviewer.
Yusuf credited the APC with understanding this voter psychology well. He suggested ruling party strategists will capitalize on public appetite for fresh political narratives.
According to him, the coming elections will test how effectively parties leverage this voter mentality. His comments underscore growing scrutiny of opposition coalition strategies as 2027 approaches.
