BUA Group has addressed concerns about the availability of cement at the promised ex-factory price of N3,500 per bag.
The company’s clarification comes in response to a seven-day deadline issued by two civil society groups demanding the sale of cement at the reduced price or face the picketing of the company.
BUA Group’s management explained that the company had indeed fulfilled its pledge to reduce the cement price to N3,500 per bag, which took effect from October 2, 2023.
However, they claimed that intermediaries and wholesalers have been preventing end-users from accessing the reduced price, resulting in continued price hikes.
Timothy Sogbeinde, the Creatives & Visual Identity manager at BUA Group, stated that the company had honored its promise, but the wholesalers have continued to hike the price.
He added that BUA Cement had not only reduced the price but also promised to review all pending, undelivered orders paid for at the old prices to align with the new pricing.
Executive Director of BUA Group, Kabir Rabiu, mentioned that the company sold its cement for N3,500 for several months, hoping other manufacturers would join in making cement more affordable.
However, they were unable to maintain the discounted price as intended recipients, the end-users, were not able to access it due to the actions of intermediaries and wholesalers.
BUA Group has clarified its stance on the N3,500 cement price promise, citing challenges in maintaining the reduced price due to the actions of intermediaries and wholesalers.
The company maintains that it fulfilled its pledge to make cement more affordable and hopes for a more cooperative environment to ensure the intended recipients, the end-users, can benefit from such initiatives.
